Help support the Leopards!
On
Sunday, May 29, 2005 Suffolk County SPCA
agents and Town of Huntington Animal Control Officers removed
two 50 lb. leopard cubs from a home in Dix Hills, New York. The
cubs were kept in a feces-filled, windowless basement room with
inadequate ventilation. The owner was arrested; Federal
wildlife investigators are working closely with SPCA officers
and County prosecutors to determine whether to bring additional
charges against the man. Both leopard cubs, which are
endangered, are being cared for and are being evaluated by a
veterinarian.
The
Suffolk County SPCA has been servicing the humane needs,
requirements, and enforcement of Animal Cruelty Laws in Suffolk
County for nearly 20 years. New York State Law provides that
there is to be but one SPCA per county in the state. The
Suffolk County, NY SPCA is in no way affiliated with, is not a
sub-division of, nor receives any monies from the “ASPCA” which
is a Manhattan-based SPCA.
Our humane division is an all volunteer, non-political,
not-for-profit corporation dedicated to providing regional
support for humane activities. Our humane division provides
humane education in Suffolk County
classrooms; runs spay/neutering programs, feral cat programs,
rabies vaccination clinics, adoption clinics, and our own mobile
veterinarian clinic vehicle.
Our expenses add up
quickly in cases such as this one, involving the leopard cubs,
and our only income, to support
humane division activities, comes from fundraising and
donations. We are not a
government supported agency and need you help in funding our
operations!
Won’t you please send in a
donation to help us continue the fight against animal neglect
and abuse?
