The County Executive is hereby authorized to enter into an agreement with the Suffolk County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, Inc., whereby the SPCA shall develop and administer a safe pets and families program to arrange suitable temporary shelter for pets of domestic violence victims, for a period of up to 90 days within Suffolk County whereby the SPCA shall respond to calls and transport animals to a temporary shelter to be provided by the SPCA based on referrals from Domestic Violence Service Providers, local police departments, and any Suffolk County offices, departments or agencies.

§ 550-10. Payment for services.



The Suffolk County Treasurer shall pay to the SPCA, on a monthly basis, those funds as are received and available for such purposes pursuant to § 111(2) of the New York Agriculture and Markets Law, as more particularly provided for in the executed agreement.

§ 550-11. Duration of agreement.



The term of this agreement shall be biennial, consistent with the calendar year, subject to renewal on a biennial basis, via legislative enactment, unless terminated in accordance with the terms of the agreement.

§ 550-12. Development and administration of program.



The SPCA is hereby authorized and empowered to develop and administer a safe pets and and families program to arrange suitable temporary shelter for pets of domestic violence victims, for a period of up to 90 days within Suffolk County.

§ 550-13. Reports of domestic violence in homes containing pets.



The County Police Department is hereby authorized, empowered and directed, pursuant to Article XIII of the Suffolk County Charter, and the Suffolk County Sheriff's Office is hereby authorized, empowered and directed, pursuant to § C17-2A of the Suffolk County Charter, to forward a copy of all reports of domestic violence when there are pets in the home to the Domestic Violence Providers, either in writing or by FAX transmission.
